YOUUUUMMA CON!!!! [Sep. 18th, 2008|10:22 am]

[mood | ecstatic]

Lookie look!!! http://www.youmacon.com/artists.php

I'm in there with a table! Cool beans! It's party time!

EDIT: I officially get my own table to spread out too!

From the forums:
"ok, the table mess seems to be straightened out -knock on wood-, and you and your friends should be ok for three tables.
I'm sorry about the stress this has caused, and the amount of time it takes to get connections made to sort this out."

Miss Monster the dog [Sep. 16th, 2008|11:27 am]

[mood | discontent]

Haha this journal has been so out of the loop. Well back track a bit. In late July my mother brought home a new puppy for our family. A Chug (pug mix).
We called her Missy and things were going ok.

Then as she got bigger and can move around better, she took to biting Milo our pug. She got really possessive of chew toys and who gets to pet her. And she doesn't like children or strangers, barks at them (sometimes growls). We thought that through some training school and at home training she would get better.

It's Sept. and I am far away from home at Grad school. I heard from my mom that when she took Missy to puppy school she tried to bite the other dogs and growled at the trainer. I also heard that Milo is getting scabs on the back of his legs from her biting. I think the class was the deciding factor for Missy. She's going to be looking to get rid of her to a lady at her work. Mom thinks that Missy would do better in a one dog house. She wants to find someone before Missy gets fixed so she doesn't have to pay for the neutering. It's not a set in stone but my mom just keeps comparing her to Louie (which was another pug we had to babysit for two months last year. He wasn't potty trained at all and liked to fight Milo.)

I feel sad yet I don't have any control over the situwation. I can't be there to take care of the dog or put time to train her while I'm here. I really love little Milo monster so I do want him to be happy and safe. What do you think should be done?

[mood | Got a cold.]

Hmmm what's been going on?
I'm in grad school getting a Art Therapy MA. The classes are nice. There's going to be a crap load of writing later. I knew it but still.

My only undergrad class is giving me the most work. Who da thought.

Lots of things are falling in place. I got a job working at the art gallery. I'm supposed to just make sure people don't steal things.

My internship seems pretty nice. I'm interning at the Boys and Girls Club. I get my own art room to have kids make art BUT get this it's an ECHOOOOOO room! The kids go nuts! Hard to talk to them.

Things are looking good to get the days off for Youma Con. (As soon as they get their act together and I find out if I get one table to myself.)

Meeting new people. Trying to start another anime club. Why because it's an excuse to gather people together to do stuff with. Checked out the Art League. There's a free life drawing meeting on Mondays with real models that you can request poses to! How awesome is that? Great references for comic drawing here I come.

Youma Con: This isn't good... [Jul. 4th, 2008|11:36 pm]

[mood | disappointed]

From the Youma Con forums!

[quote="Vicemage"]I just wanted to make sure that those of us who registered at the Youmacon table at Acen last month also are confirmed as having a table... I registered, as well as two other artists I know, and I didn't see any of our names on the Alley site (and we've received no email confirmation of any sort either that I remember seeing). Is this just a delay in processing? Thanks![/quote]

[quote="Greyshift"]The delay has been caused by two issues.
1. Entering the information by hand is a slow process and the registrations with tables are at the bottom of the stack.
2. We're still working out the details on exatcly how many tables are left available as the tables shouldn't have been made available at Acen the way they were. We're doing some final number crunching in order to fit in as many people as possible.

So to answer your question, at the moment no guarentees to those of you who registered for a table at Acen.[/quote]

I'm one of the artists that registered at Acen.

"tables shouldn't have been made available at Acen the way they were. "
"no guarentees to those of you who registered for a table at Acen."

That is very unsettling...

I don't think I'll be able to afford to go there if I can't sell. Bummer.

[mood | Thinking]

Woo hoo! I'm going to ACen!

I'm selling HP and MP potions, Okami rocks, chibi paintings on tiny canvases, origami, TPCTH books and commissions.

I'm hoping to meet some great artists and add some local art to my collection. Mostly self-published comics I'm thinking.

This summer's going to be crazy.

I'm finishing off my studio art classes. 12 credits of just drawing. Prof wants me to publish two books by the end of summer. I want them to be Demon Eater and TPCTH volumes 2. I'm short 100 pages for them both. I have enough pages already for making the books but... I want TPCTH to be a 200 page book due to it's manga format(it takes many pages to get the plot moving anywhere). I want the 2nd book of DE to be the complete 2nd story arc so that the story can be partly self contained.

I've finally started a donation initiative at my Demon Eater site. $16= extra page. So far looks like I'm only updating Fridays for Demon Eater this summer.

I'll take advantage of that by working more on The Planet Closest to Heaven. That comic really needs more pages.

[mood | BIG SIGH OF RELIEF!]

I have received a notification that Comixpress has printed my order and it's on it's way. It said the books should be here by the 28th.

I'm happy that it worked out.

Next time I should set a specific date in a couple months I need the order by vs a few months on an open date.

Now I hope all 50 books will come in good quality.

My Oldsmoble Achiva broke down for good Friday. It lasted pretty long. I had it since 10th grade in high school. Like seven years I think...

I'm going to get a new-er used car soon. Thank goodness my brother is here for spring break I'm using his car and week of 21-30th is my spring break. So I got two weeks to buy a car.

[mood | trying to have faith]

As of yet, I still haven't heard anything from them about my order.

I know that they should have received the emails from Vice and I. Phone and fax seems to be worthless because their fax doesn't work, they have no answering machine, and they never answer the phone.

When I placed the order I must have said I needed it by end of March vs. just March. That's my only reason to why they are taking their sweet time and have never responded to any of the emails. I did enough calling and worrying. I'm going to just let it go and wait until April first. I'll try to have some faith that it will all go through.

If I don't hear anything from them or receive the order, I'll give a warning email on the 2nd(asking for an explanation by the 7th.)and if I get nothing still then on the 7th I'll contact the BBB and proceed to post on all webcomic forums I am a part of and tell how I got ripped off by ComiXpress.

[mood | optimistic]

Supporting teacher is very nice. She's not as stressed, perfectionist and a workaholic as my last supporting teacher.

Anime Detour is coming. I still haven't heard from ComiXpress yet. I really really hope I get those books in time. I can't afford to buy from Lulu.

I've been eyeing the mini canvases in the spring sale art catalog. Man, I wanna buy them. I'm not even that great of an acrylics painter but I still think it would be hella fun to do painting commissions.

Comixpress has been the suck [Mar. 6th, 2008|10:17 pm]

[mood | >:(]

Okay so I reorder my books for cons this year, in December. I gave a due date all the way to March thinking: oh if they have plenty of time, they will do a good job and get the books to me long before then!

It's March now. There's this creator portal thing that says they have my money but my print is "pending". Man it's been "pending" since late December! They had my money for a long time. I made many calls with no answer. I sent an email last month and today I get no reply.

They could have at least told me that they were going to wait until the last minute to do anything. I'm ticked off because on the site it says reorders usually take two weeks.

quote from the FAQ:
"Once payment is received your books will be printed and ready to ship within 2 weeks."

What's the deal?!

I can't technically make any official BBB complaints until the the due date is over (March), but having no response with the service is crappy.

[mood | excited]

I found a cool discovery today. Comixpress prints color for much less than I thought. I might actually afford to print Demon Eater through them making it possible to sell DE at $20.

If only I can do that before Anime Detour or ACen...

Student Teaching is killer. It's impossible to do anything other than homework on a weekday. It's going to have to be a next weekend project.

I got two weeks left. Then I'm gone from the dorms forever. When I come back for final summer classes I'm going to try to room with some friends I know. They might have kitties.

Where am I going to go next when I'm done with school? I don't know.

Almost end of year entry [Nov. 20th, 2007|08:21 pm]

[mood | calm]

Lots of exciting stuff happening.

-It's Thanksgiving time. I get to go home and finally relax a bit.

-Finished my huge art history writing assignment last weekend.

-Running behind on drawing comics this week. Probably make a filler for Friday tonight and slowly work on the page this weekend.

-After finals going to Miami, Florida! Not for crappy theme parks just the BEACH! I've been waiting all year for this. I may even get to visit the Everglades. XD

-Next week going to visit my teachers I will be taking student-teaching with next semester. The heads want me to sign some contract with them before the end of the semester. Worried about the Elementary teacher. Email doesn't work and I'm getting no response from calling. So my adviser says just stop in the school and visit her. So I will try that the 26th.

-After New Years might visit a few Minneapolis/St. Paul webcomic people. Sounds exciting.

art talk. Artist statement drafts [Oct. 16th, 2007|09:05 pm]
[Tags|]
[mood | blank]

Everything at school is due November 1st. Sorry home-friends if I can't see ya until after then.

I gotta rewrite my artist statement for Senior Show. Basically because I don't like the old version...

If I theme it around comics...

Creating comics are like being the writer, actor, director, and editor of a movie all in one person. I write the story, the characters, the conflicts... I act out scenes in front of mirrors to draw the emotions of the characters. I direct the angles where I want every scene and character to be placed in each panel. And lastly I edit and manipulate the scenes to emphasize and hide what the audience sees. It becomes a very involving experience. That’s why I like to make comics and will continue to create them.

social talk [Oct. 16th, 2007|08:48 pm]
[Tags|]
[Current Location |dorm]
[mood | calm]

For the social stuff, I go to anime club still when I don't have too much homework. It's better this year. The president and vice seem to actually care about what's going on which is good. The new people are fun. Some of the old members whom have/had a click around them don't come as much so it's easier to enjoy anime for the sake of enjoying anime.

I don't see much of my old roommate as much. She hasn't come to one anime meeting and I haven't once visited her or her friends. Kinda a bummer.

I think since this is my last real semester at school, I just don't seem to care anymore about maintaining a social life with everyone.

I have been hanging out with Holly more. She had a few friends graduate last year so she seems to like my company. I think I do better with one-on-one friendships than with groups.

fall con and other things [Oct. 16th, 2007|08:39 pm]
[Tags|]

Cool things at Fall Con:
-Got in free as a creator :D
-Got free food
-Hanged out with comic people

Didn't make any money due to spending a lot of money hahaha!
But it's always like that at every convention!

It was different from an anime con in that:
-mostly a dealer's room
-less cosplayers-(the few ones are super heroes, scifi, or goth)
-lots more older men
-Felt like a garage sale in that there was a lot of old collectible toys there.
-American food and candy only
-Oh and you don't make as much sales

I was much more happier at this one than Anime Iowa was so it was all good.

Upcoming events:
-Senior show Nov. 13th
-Clinical start Nov 1st
-Florida vacation after finals in Dec.

Next con is Anime Detour!
